MetaOps is engaged in a retained search for an experienced Lithium-Ion Manufacturing Manager interested in a role to scope, plan, stand up and run an all-new low volume, high mix plant in Michigan. Our customer is a rapidly growing manufacturer of Lithium-Ion Batteries and related products that are highly engineered, low volume, high mix products serving B2B customers including corporations and government / military agencies.

We are seeking a key leader who has hands-on experience setting up and running such a battery cell assembly and/or electrode coating facility. This role is reporting directly to the company president COO.

We are conducting a retained search for a key manager for this role who will relocate to the SE Michigan area.

What you’d do:

The LI Battery Manufacturing Manager will be challenged to lead in a hands-on fashion these activities going forward:

Lead the company to define what future Lithium Ion (LI) battery production needs to be and build a complete five year-plus strategy to start up LI cell and cell pack production operation in SE Michigan.  They will have an evolving list of duties that may include the following:

  1. Gather from everyone the elements to consider in making decisions about what kind scale / type / strategy is best for standing up a LI Batter Cell/Pack manufacturing operation.
  2. Gather data and information and scenarios they need to work through the trade-off decisions for various future state scenarios – materials, vertical integration, partnering, technologies, materials, supply, etc. for a low volume / hi mix specialty manufacturing operations.
  3. Advise and support all the tasks so select a site and work through all the requirements and considerations to put up a new LI Battery Manufacturing facility.
  4. Work through equipment selection, procurement, install and commissioning.
  5. Hire and develop the workforce needed and run the LI production operations on-going.

This role requires strong proven skills in leading a cross-disciplinary team to execute the future state manufacturing plant vision. This role requires up to 25% travel as necessitated by demands of the business.


  • 10+ years of work experience in progressively more responsible roles with at least 3 years in the production and assembly of Lithium Batteries.
  • Strong experience and skills / expertise including:
    • Technical aspects of Quality Management Systems.
    • Quality and Lean Six Sigma trained desirable.
    • Production management
  • Proven track record with referenced case studies of accomplishments.
  • Engineering, sciences, and / or other related degree or other acumen related to lithium battery manufacturing and kindred products.
